The Canandaigua boys lacrosse team will be featured in a season-long online documentary sponsored by New Balance.
The sporting goods company picked the Braves because of their community support.
Christmas came early for the lacrosse team. The gym was filled with new cleats, helmets, shirts all for the taking. A camera crew was there to document the day.
Jim Mackenzie of New Balance said, We were blown away by the submissions from California to Massachusetts and everywhere in between but there isn't anything like lacrosse in Canandaigua.
New Balance was looking for a lacrosse team to profile for its new online documentary "Season in the Balance."
Canandaigua Athletic Director Jim Simmons is thrilled his team is getting perks for their efforts. He doesn't expect this MTV generation will be distracted by the cameras or attention.
The fact that Canandaiguas submission was focused on the community and not the team or individuals made these players great subjects for potential story lines.
Captain Marshall Johnson will wear a microphone for a season that stretches for more than three months. I think it will show more for Canandaigua, nothing individually but more for the team. We hope it keeps rolling and they will notice us more.
New Balance is a sponsor of Major League Lacrosse and wanted to create this first-ever online documentary on the grassroots level of the sport.
The fact that they are nationally ranked is gravy the team is loved here and that's evident.
The players will be filmed on an off the field. Senior Brian Scheetz loves watching reality TV. He never thought he would be apart of it. I think a lot more people will be exposed to lacrosse for them it is great sport it may get them to play it.
